Different types of headaches

Headaches are a form of pain that you can experience in or around the head. It is quite common to have a headache occasionally, and there are very few people who have never experienced one. Generally, people alleviate this pain by taking one or two pain killers, if it’s not too severe.

There are different types of headaches that people have at many times in their life. These include tension headache, migraine, cluster headaches, and chronic daily headaches. If you feel severe pain in your head due to any of these types, then you should visit a medical doctor.

Migraines are severe headaches that affect one side of the head. This type of headache is generally accompanied by distressing symptoms such as vomiting and nausea. In the UK, migraine affects a large number of people.

Another type of headache is a cluster headache, which is frequent but short-lived. Cluster headaches are generally experienced on one side of the head across the temple or around the eye. They can occur more than once in a day. Cluster headaches can disrupt your sleep, so you should seek relief treatment for these types of headaches by talking to your doctor. These types of headaches can recur for several weeks and then subside. Cluster headaches may re-develop after a few weeks.

Chronic daily headaches can be either due to migraine or cluster headaches. They can last for a fortnight or several months. In such a situation, it’s always advisable to seek a doctor’s help and take the recommended treatment.
